Stumbled upon this amazing magazine dedicated to do it yourself crafts and fashion ideas for the chubby lady! It contains a mixture of personal pieces, tutorials, craft tips, guides to pattern upsizing, event organising and some fairly bad art!
It was such a beautiful sunny afternoon today! So of course I had to take advantage and have some lunch in the fresh hair. Ben and I have a friend staying with us from out of town so we thought Alcove would be a perfect place to go eat. Pretty much the whole play is great outdoor seating. If you’ve never been there the desert alone is worth it. Happy Friday!
This challenge is open to everyone of every identification. It is meant to be a challenge both for you to express yourself, and to Disney and its fandom to recognize your voice and your desire for representation and acceptance in the official Disney releases, but also within the Disney community-…
One of the most frequent questions I get is what my advice is for bigger girls finding cute clothes (because Lord knows it AINT EASY!)
I can almost promise you that if you follow some of these tips you will be oddly surprised at how you can enhance your wardrobe and discover a whole new outlook on shopping!
TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!
Many of us want to get in and get out in a heart beat but unfortunately it is a rare occasion that you will successfully come out with something you love. Shopping, especially for us bigger girls, is somewhat of an art haha. Set aside some time to go. If you have a hot date, a party or a night out with the girls, DO NOT run to the mall with only a half hour in your pocket. I know that sounds undesirable for some but take some time to yourself to shop in peace. If the malls give you anxiety try department stores or outlet stores where there is more space between shoppers.
DON’T GET DISCOURAGED!!!!
If you’ve tried some stores and nothing fits or you cant find what you want, don’t let that effect every shopping trip. Sometimes I go out and find not a single piece and other times I can barely hold all the bags! Always have positive outlook it not only makes things more relaxing but when your not anxious you have a better chance of continuing your shopping trip and ultimately finding something you’ll be happy with !
YOU DON’T HAVE TO SPEND LOTS TO LOOK GOOD!!!!
How often have you avoided shopping because you cant afford it. Well, sometimes you wont be able to spend a dime but sometimes even $20 will score you an amazing piece! one of my favorite dresses I own only cost $14.99!!! You have probably seen me wear it often!
Here are some of the dresses/skirts I purchased for under $20!
So obviously you see many repeat items but that just shows you how you can incorporate many items into different outfits!
DONT ASSUME BECAUSE IT SAYS ITS TOO SMALL IT IS!!!
Because clothing sizes vary so much from store to store I NEVER trust a label. I almost always pull out the garments to visualize the physical size of things. If your like me, most of the time you can look at something and tell whether or not its going to fit or not. Don’t always assume that the large or medium will be too small, and don’t always assume the XL will fit or the XXL will be too big. When in doubt TRY IT ON!!!!
LOOK FOR OTHER WAYS TO WEAR AN ITEM!!!
Id often skip out on skirts that weren’t my size until the highwaisted skirt trend came along! your waist is always much smaller than your hips so if you can find a good stretchy/flowy material your almost guaranteed to find a skirt you never thought you could wear. I own some skirts in a size 5! I just wear them high!
Also, don’t deny yourself cute tanks and Tee’s because you think they will be too tight on your tummy or too short. Again, thanks to the highwaisted skirt trend, that is no longer an issue!
I hope that gives you a god head start the next time you step foot in a mall. I, sure if your thrifty like I am alot of this will make sense to you. If your a name brand kinda lady some will not apply but I hope you can take tid bits from it.
If you ever have any questions always feel free to ask!
If you know me you also know that I have a SERIOUS accessory addiction.
I love accessories because no matter what size you are you can spruce up even the plainest of outfits.
I always get asked where I got my scarf or my necklace etc.
Well, 9 times out of 10 I got it at Ardene’s. I believe it is a Canadian company but from the looks of it you can order a small selection of their items online. As you can see the prices are quite reasonable.
However, if you live in Canada, Ardene’s always sells in price bundles. Currently they have their fashion scarves for 3 for $15, rings, earrings, necklaces and sunglasses 3 for $10, hair accessories and socks are 5 for $10 and many of their clothing items are 2 for $20/$30 or buy one get one 50% off.
I know far too many people who have assumed Ardene’s were for preteens, BUT ITS NOT!!! In fact, many of their size XL fits me just fine!! Go check em out
